What ImmiAccount accepts

The Department of Home Affairs says documents attached in ImmiAccount can be up to 5 MB each, and digital photographs should be between 70 KB and 3.5 MB. PDF is among the accepted formats, but ImmiAccount does not accept encrypted or secured PDF files. Home Affairs notes this often happens with documents downloaded directly from a website, and suggests printing and scanning a new copy.

Clear photos of documents are accepted too, and you can attach up to 60 documents for each person on most applications, or 100 on partner visas. Putting a multi-page document into one PDF keeps its pages together and saves attachment slots.

Fixing files that won't attach

This checker builds a brand-new PDF from your pages, so the result is never encrypted, and it shrinks the pictures inside until the file is at or under 5,000,000 bytes. It can't read a secured or password-protected PDF, though. For those, do what Home Affairs suggests - print and scan a new copy - or photograph the printed pages and combine the photos here.

  • Secured download? A PDF from a bank or government website may be secured. Print it, then photograph or scan the pages and make a new PDF from them here.
  • One document type per file. Attach each document under its own type in ImmiAccount, such as passport or evidence of address.
  • Facial image is separate. Applicant photos are attached as JPG under Facial image; use Compress Image or Resize Image to get one between 70 KB and 3.5 MB.
  • Keep your own copies. Home Affairs says you can't open your supporting documents from ImmiAccount after uploading, so keep the originals and the PDFs you made.

How to prepare a document for ImmiAccount

  1. Add the pages of one document: take photos, choose photos, or add PDF files.
  2. Arrange the pages in order and turn any that are sideways.
  3. Press Create PDF. The pages become one PDF of 5 MB or less, without any password or encryption.
  4. Read the upload check, tick the points only you can confirm, then attach the PDF under the matching document type in ImmiAccount.

How your files stay private

Your browser reads the photos and PDFs, builds the document, numbers it and shrinks it, all in memory on your phone or computer. The page is locked so it cannot send data to any other website. When you press Start over or close the tab, everything is cleared.

  • Photos up to 25 MB each; PDFs up to 50 MB each and 200 MB in total

Questions

What is the ImmiAccount file size limit?

Home Affairs says documents can be up to 5 MB each, and digital photographs should be between 70 KB and 3.5 MB.

Why won't my PDF attach to ImmiAccount?

Often because it's larger than 5 MB, which this checker fixes, or because it's encrypted or secured, which ImmiAccount doesn't accept. A secured PDF needs a fresh copy first: print and scan it, or photograph the pages and combine them here.

Is this an official Home Affairs tool?

No. SentrueFile has no connection to the Australian Government. It only gets your files into shape and offers no migration advice.

Do my documents leave my phone or computer?

No. They're combined and compressed in your browser, and nothing is sent to SentrueFile or anyone else.

Can I attach photos of documents instead of scans?

Home Affairs accepts photos of documents if they're clear and show all the information. Combining the photos into one PDF here keeps each document together.

What does PDF Maker do that the other tools don't?

It does several jobs in one go: photos and PDFs become one document, page numbers run across all of it, and the finished file is brought under the size you choose. With separate tools you would upload the file again for each step.
