Guide: How to split a PDF or extract pages

Send the pages that matter, not the whole file

A landlord wants proof of income, not your entire payslip history. A school asks for one certificate from a folder of scans. A client needs the signed page of a forty-page contract. Extracting creates a small new PDF with exactly those pages, so you share less personal information and the reader finds what they need at once.

The result is also far smaller than the full document, which helps with upload forms and email limits.

Your original PDF is never altered. Extracting reads it, copies the pages you named into a fresh document and leaves the source file exactly as it was, so you can come back and take a different selection at any time.

Writing the page list

Separate single pages and ranges with commas. Page numbers count from the first page of the file, which may differ from the numbers printed on the pages.

  • One page: type 7.
  • A run of pages: type 3-6 for pages three, four, five and six.
  • Mixed: type 1, 4-5, 12 to take page one, pages four and five, and page twelve.
  • To the end: type 10- to take page ten and everything after it.
  • Need a different order? Extract the pages first, then open the new file in Organize PDF and drag them into the order you want.

How to extract pages from a PDF

  1. Open your PDF on this page or drop it onto the box. Extract pages into one PDF is already selected.
  2. Under Pages to extract, type the pages you want, such as 2-4, 9. A line underneath confirms what the new file will hold.
  3. Press Extract pages and save the new PDF. The original keeps all of its pages.

How your files stay private

The PDF is read and split by your browser, in memory, and handed straight back to you as a download. The page is locked so it cannot send data to any other website. When you press Start over or close the tab, everything is cleared.

Limits

  • One PDF at a time, up to 50 MB
  • Password-protected or restricted PDFs can't be split
  • Bookmarks, fillable form fields and links between pages may not be kept

Questions

Can I pick pages that aren't next to each other?

Yes. List them with commas, for example 2, 5, 9, and they all go into the same new PDF.

Can I save each extracted page as its own file?

Yes - on the same tool, choose Split into separate PDFs instead. You get one file per page or per range, together in a ZIP.

Do extracted pages keep their quality?

Completely. They are copied from the original exactly as they are; nothing is redrawn or compressed.

Can I extract the pictures inside a PDF?

This tool takes out whole pages. To get pages as images, use PDF to JPG, which saves each chosen page as a JPG or PNG picture.

Is my PDF uploaded to extract pages?

No. The PDF is read and the new file is written by your browser on your own device.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Your browser does the work on your own device. The file is never sent to our servers or anyone else's.
